Field In February!

Whew…what a a long weekend…so good, so fun, so much climbing!

This amazing group met at the usual first day place, Haffner, and proceeded to get after it on lots of ice and some fun mixed lines. It is hard to not give it everything when you are having fun, but people showed some good self restraint knowing they had 3 more big days ahead of them!

We cruised over to Field to settle in to the Fireweed Hostel that we had all to ourselves! Love this place. Unfortunately, on our way there we learned that Parks was going to bomb the area for avi control the next day so we needed to come up with a back up plan. WE enjoyed a fine meal from Sonja of homemade curry and decided to go to bed early and get up EARLY to hit the parkway and get on Murchison and left and right weeping wall!

John, Janine and Mary Ann on Murchison

Lucky us, the early start proved to be useful and we all got to our objectives first! A beautiful day had us stripping down layers midway up the weeping wall, and psyched that we brought our sunglasses! I climbed with Tanis and Gabrielle and was super proud of Gab for stepping up to the lead for the final pitch on the left side weeping wall! Maria and Colleen enjoyed the steep right hand side and Janine and Mary Ann put in a long day on Murchison.

That night we all felt accomplished and enjoyed another fine meal of shishkabobs , yams and salad and of course Sonja’s famous carrot cake! Wow…what a great way to end the day!

Next day had us going after it in Field. Short drives and great climbs. Maria led a bunch of Guiness with Tanis and John, Kris sent Super Bok with Colleen and Gabrielle and Janine, Mary Ann and I cranked up Carlsberg. Another fine day in Field with warmish temps and great ice. Meanwhile Sonja, and Claire had a great day out with Jen on Kitty Hawk!

Steep and fun

That night we were blessed with yet another amazing meal, and some great guitar playing and singing by Mary Ann and Gabrielle. perhaps the stop at the liquor store that afternoon was a poor or really good idea…still not sure! Either way..much singing, dancing, beverage consumption and laughter made for a fabulous and laughter filled night. Memorable for sure!

Double trouble
Rockin out

So was the next morning…which was a littttttttle rough after the “fun” from the previous evening!

But…we must climb…and climb we did! Kris went all the way with Mary Ann and Gabrielle up Guiness Stout!, John, Janine, and Maria did Pilsner Pillar, and Colleen, Tanis and I did Carlsberg. Not bad on day 4 with some tired bodies and minds:)

Thanks so much everyone for a fabulous camp, great energy and good times. Can’t think of a better way to spend 4 days!

Thanks again to Outdoor Research for always supporting these camps with great apparel!!!

Looking forward to the next one in March!
